How Do You Build Your House? – The Magic Of Raw Foods

We all know that Living Foods have been used by thousands of people to gain health, energy, youth and vitality.

The answer does not come from the foods; the secret lies in the inherent powers of your own body. This body is made of the most precious and non-replacable machine we humans have ever come across.

It has a tremendous ability to heal, renew and rejuvenate itself if only we give it the best materials to work.

Scientists and doctors have not been able understand the human brain beyond 10%, not able to figure out the purpose of our pineal gland (except that it reacts to light, and nothing else is known), let alone the rest of our body organs and tissues.

In actual fact, all our body organs are made of tissues, which are in turn made of cells. These clusters of cells make up tissues, clusters of tissues form organs, or bones etc, which make up our physical body.

Every morsel of food we intake into our body, are metabolized into substances delivered to the cells. The foods we eat become part of the cells in the body, and eventually make up the tissues and organs and our body.

It is like building a house with different grades of materials – junk or real good building, materials.

Like the Three Little Pigs, you can choose to build your house with straw, wood or bricks. Everything we do in Life is a Choice.

When you make a change to eat more Raw Living Foods, you infuse your body with the top grade of building materials for a firm solid house.

When your spirit dwells in a strong sturdy house, you live comfortably, you are happier, and you have time for more meaningful, enriching activities with your family and loved ones. You are free to pursue your true purpose in Life.

But when the house is constantly falling apart, you are heavily involved in major overhauls, repair works, cleaning and healing. No time for love, laughter and living your true purpose.

I, for one, choose only the best possible materials at any given point in time, towards building and maintenance of my house. Like the Big Brother Pig of the Three Little Pigs story, I choose only firm, genuine solid bricks which stand strong even in the harshest wind, typhoon attacks or any VIRUS scares.

Raw Food Diet – History Of Raw

Is the Raw Food Diet a new fad or trend that is seeping into Asia like the latest fashion statement? Well, I was never a fan of History, BUT I am definitely 1 curious cat. And because I am still alive (more than ever!), let’s explore some facts & research on the History of Raw Food, its Evolution & Place in Humanity.

Now mind you, there is a TONNE of information, sometimes conflicting, on this topic which can knock out even a seasoned reader. And how do I deal with it? Simple – I just look at facts, research done by professionals & recognized Institutes, as well as actual living examples. And then of course I listened to my own body to see what works for me.

Humans are suffering from degenerative diseases generations after generations. In the latest decade, it seems to be getting out of hand. I have always noticed & be disturbed at the endless battle with new, unheard of diseases & ailments while our scientists furiously invent new “pills & drugs” for cure….

Before History on Raw Food was documented, there were some evidence from countries like Iran & India where early communities ate & thrived on raw vegan foods… Humans only learned & started to cook after they discovered fire, and we also happen to be the only species to cook our food.

Hippocrates was a student at “Mathematikoi” (a religious & philosophical school founded by Phythagoras where all students were required to be vegetarians), and Hipporates is a well-known figure (the Father of Medicine). From research, both Hippocrates & Phythagoras were believed to have eaten a primary raw vegan diet.

In 1930, Dr Paul Kouchakoff (from the Institute of Clinical Chemistry in Lausanne, Switzerland) proved a human body condition known as “Digestive Leukocytosis”. This is a reaction where white blood cells in the body increase immediately, and is produced only when cooked foods are eaten. When natural & unheated plants are eaten, Leukocytosis did not occur. And what is this Leukocytosis relevant to? This is in fact, a stress response produced by the body when it is invaded by a dangerous pathogen (ie. a harmful virus) or trauma.

In 1933, Forbes EB wrote a paper saying that “Cooking renders food pasty, so that it sticks to the teeth, and undergoes acid fermentation…” His paper linked the consumption of cooked food to dental degeneration.

In 1936, dentist Weston A Prince also observed the latter amongst an evolving generation which abandoned unadulterated nutrient dense foods for nutrient- void processed foods. That was coincidentally a beginning period of civilization for humanity.

In 1941, Dr. Edward Howell, an Illinois physician, wrote Food Enzymes for Health & Longevity. And in 1981, he published Enzyme Nutrition And “Eat Me Raw”. These 2 books claimed that the pancreas is forced to work harder on a diet of cooked foods, and that food enzymes are just as essential to digestion as the body’s self-generated enzymes.
In 1966, A. Hovannessian healed his sick child with raw food, and published a book called “Raw Eating” in Iran.

In the late 1960s, Viktoras Kulvinskas & Ann Wigmore discovered powerful healing benefits of a raw diet. They opened The Hippocrates Institute (which by the way, is still very active today and managed by Dr Brian & Dr Maria Clement). The Institute has been curing sick people with “Incurable Diseases”.

In 1975, after Viktoras published “Survival into the 21st Century”, raw food started to trickle into the main stream. The Gersons Institute (based on raw food healing research by Dr Max Gerson) was set up shortly in 1977. “The New Raw Energy” by Leslie Kenton in 1984 further increased exposure of the raw food diet.

Now, up to then, raw food still comprised mainly of boring salads & juices. Along came pioneer raw gourmet chef Juliano, who entered the scene with his restaurant “Raw” in LA, California. He attracted movie stars and models whom suddenly seemed to gain youthfulness & beauty without surgery, now did that grab the media’s attention! And do you know that Demi Moore, Woody Harrelson & Alicia Silverstone are raw foodists? I wouldn’t mind having that body & youthfulness, not at all! ;)

Since then, the raw food scene has been exploding with new raw gourmet chefs, books, institutions to teach raw gourmet cuisine, raw food classes, and even motion pictures being made this very minute! You can see youthful & energetic “raw gurus” springing up all over US, UK, and yes, even Asia now. Go ahead & search for it – they are all over the place!

So, what is my take on Raw Vegan Foodism? Is a 100% Raw Vegan diet the best for health? To me it is quite simple… I know that just by adding more fresh vegetables & fruits to any of my meals make them healthier & more nutritious. I just choose to go full throttle, whenever I can, to feel at my best, that’s all!

Because You, are unique and You have your own special nutritional requirements, nobody has a right to dictate what is a perfect diet for You. As long as it works for your body, make it your choice! Eat the freshest, least adulterated & least processed foods you can get your hands on. Just listen to Your Body and pay attention. Instead of 100% Raw or Vegan, focus on 100% health, energy and happiness!

We have got enough evidence, medical advice & even government endorsements which encourage consumption of fresh fruits & vegetables on a daily basis, to know that these are good for us. Period. Never mind 100% Raw or not, 100% vegan or not…. if you are like me, you will just want to get the most nutrients & taste out of every meal!

Yin Yang Balanced Smoothies

We know that consuming Green Smoothies is an awesome way of getting the best nutrition into the body. They are easy to make, taste delicious, contains first class nutrients, requires little to zero digestion, and produces no by-product toxins.

Now, the key is to balance the nature of the Green Smoothie so that the resulting smoothie is not too cooling, nor too heaty.

In Asia, it is easy to tilt over to the cooling side because firstly, Greens are already alkalizing and most Greens cools the body. Plus the fact that most of our fruit crops are cooling (because we are in tropical climate with warm weathers), it is extremely to feel too cold from consuming Smoothies.

By becoming informed with the nature of fruits and greens, we can plan our Green Smoothies ingredients to make sure we can enjoy the benefits while feeling balanced.

By including a mixture of fruits from both Yin and Yang groups, on rotational basis, we make sure that our Green Smoothies has somewhat a balanced nature, instead of skewing towards either being too cooling or heaty.

To intentionally increase the thermal nature of a Green Smoothie, some easy tips to remember also include throwing in:

1) a 2 inch Fresh Ginger
2) a 2 inch Fresh Tumeric
3) 2-3 Tbs of Raw Cacao
4) Basil, Dill, Oregano
5) a handful of heaty “topping fruits” (fruits which are not suitable for blending but do well as a topping over a Green Smoothie or Green Pudding)
– Longans, Lychees, Rambutans, Duku Langsat,
6) a handful of soaked Goji Berries
7) a handful of soaked walnuts, pumpkin/sunflower seeds

Smoothies for the Cool Season

We are right in the middle of the year end monsoon season in Singapore, where showers and cool wind are present almost every day after noon.

While I’m enjoying the nice cool change, it does get a bit chilly to be eating raw foods unless we plan intelligently on food selection. Singapore is situated right next to the equator, and we are a tropical country with plenty of cooling fruits. For somebody eating mostly raw foods here, it can be easy to tilt over to the cooling side.

Just like natural forces in life, foods also have a particular nature of Yin, Yang or neutral. This is also the time to add in some warming foods into the raw food meal plans.

When you are making a smoothie and you use common fruits like Bananas, Melons, Citrus fruits and/or Coconut water, the smoothie will be of a very Yin consistency. There are some easy pointers to follow if you wish balance or warm the consistency of the resulting smoothie:

1) Add a small piece of fresh old ginger into the smoothie
2) Throw in handful of Basil – which is warming
3) Use more of local greens which are neutral like Tung Oh
4) Reduce the use of Xiao Bai Chye and Sweet Potato Leaves
5) If you are using coconut, make use of the coconut meat as well as the water
6) Use more Mangoes to replace Bananas in smoothies
7) Include some “heaty” fruits like Durians, Jackfruit, Longans, Rambutans and Lychee in the weekly diet

The Best Anti-Depressants

The cases of depression & insomnia affecting our nations today, have exploded exponentially over the past 2 years.

Every other day, I’d hear a friend telling me about sleepless nights, a loved one sharing about a colleague suffering from “split personality” and depressions, or even a passer-by mention about how alcohol helps them sleep better.

Rewind our society by 50 years, do our grand parents suffer from such symptoms when they were our age?

Heck no! And therefore common sense tells me that this is NOT natural.

Anti-depressants make us more depressed; I used to be on it in the younger days, and from both my own and friends’ experiences, they made a emotional wreck out of anyone dependent on them.

In fact, the real lasting solution to any problem including depression, lies within the simplest and humblest things. Besides some complicated powdered synthesized chemicals made in a lab named as Anti-Depressant pills, here are some DELIGHTFUL ideas to help alleviate DEPRESSION.

Just sit comfortably wherever you are, close your eyes, straighten your spine, and then breath slowly deliberately and deeply for 10 counts. For every of the 10 counts, focus 100% on the inhalation and exhalation of each breath. Don’t worry if your mind wanders because it will automatically come back when you draw in the next breath.

And then open your eyes, observe how you feel, and notice the drastic change in emotional state!

Well yes, I used to have humongous cravings for alcohol, tobacco, coffee, donuts, pastries, potato chips, crackers, and any kind of junk food you can name from the snack encyclopedia. If there ever was a ph.D course in Junk Food & Processed Snacks Dictionary, I’d have topped the faculty.

Sometimes as short as just an hour after lunch, I’d catch myself longing for a pastry or fritters. It seems that the more I ate, the more I wanted.

What’s the reason for experiencing all these cravings?

Whatever foods we had been feeding into our bodies, we are programming our cells with them. Our body knows only the foods we eat or had eaten before. And so, when the body needs nourishment, they call out for these foods.

The cells are needing nourishment for our basic survival, proper functioning, healing, recovery and optimal wellness. When these nourishment lacks, our brain receives signals from the body to eat more.

But what’s the real deal here? Are we getting what we require from what we are eating?

From the fact that the more we eat, the more we want, it seems pretty logical to deduce that we are not properly nourished! What’s happening now is that there seems to be global epidemic, somewhat like a never ending slippery slope of obesity, fatigue, pre-mature aging, balding, depression, infertility and degenerative diseases.

Why does it seem so miraculous that cravings can drop substantially after the introduction of Green Smoothies?

Green Power – 5 Easy Ways to Make Delicious Smoothies

5 Ways to become the Smoothie King/Queen

1) Use only the ripe fruits:

Ripe fruits contain all the enzymes necessary for digestion and assimilation, and Nature “announce” them for eating when we are attracted by the sweet fragrance of ready-to-eat fruits.

When you use the ripe fruits, their sweetness and juicy texture makes Smoothie making so much easier – you don’t need to wash/prepare too many portions nor add too many other items.

2) Keep it simple!

Unless you are already a Smoothie Goddess (you know it when everything you make turns out awesome!), always keep it to as simple as possible.

The best combo is simply 1 type of fruit, and 1 type of green. The more items you add in, the harder it becomes to control the taste.

3) Use your sense of smell.

Don’t know how to choose quality produce?

Use your nose the next time you are clueless. I learned this in Thailand on a farming course – that our sense of smell can be pretty helpful in determining which produce to buy.

Over time, as I cleaned up my diet, my sense of smell sharpened so much that I can literally smell pesticides on some heavily sprayed produce like tomatoes. So many times when I cannot get organic produce, I engage my nose for some indication.

4) Rotate the greens regularly

If you don’t wish to wake up one morning and find the smoothies you make become tasteless, rotate them intelligently!

The body sends signals to avoid that food when you are getting the same of it day after day.

To keep the smoothies delicious and nutritious, change them!

Humans are not meant to eat only one type of food; which probably explains that there are theories discovering small amounts of toxins in every food crop. When we rotate well amongst all the foods and get the full spectrum, these toxins are canceled by one another.

5) Freeze your fruits for convenience and longer-lasting smoothies

In Singapore’s humid weather, it is best to consume your smoothie shortly after its blended; well at least for the most of it, because that is in its FULL GLORY!

If not, fret not, because Green Smoothies do not oxidize as fast as juices – as researched by Victoria Boutenko (inventor of Green Smoothies, bless her!) So, it is still possible to make your smoothie cold, so that you can store it or carry it around for a later part of the day.

It is easy to make a slightly cold smoothie, simply pre-freeze your fruits, throw in some ice cubes OR use chilled water instead of normal temperature water.
